Exercising Your Dog
All dogs need some form of exercise, but studies show that most dogs prefer playful exercise to rowing machines or treadmills (though they will join you in a jog). Maybe dogs are on to something, and humans should play more to keep fit.
The kind of play you give your dog depends on the dog’s age, its temperament, its health and its general physical characteristics. Older dogs may benefit most from walking around the neighborhood, while younger dogs generally need much more activity. And just as you wouldn't go right from months of couch potato-hood into training for a marathon, a sedentary pet should start exercising gradually. For a good run-down of how to plan exercise for your dog, check out the following on Jogging and Other Aerobic Exercise With Dogs. Comments
